About Tyson Garfield

I’m Dr. Tyson Garfield—founder of The Medicine Check and a geriatrician, educator, and advocate for healthy aging and financial literacy. I created this blog as a space to share insights, break down complex healthcare topics, and explore what it means to age well with intention, dignity, and humor.

I earned my medical degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM) in Fort Worth, TX, completed my Internal Medicine residency at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, and went on to specialize in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Denver. I’m board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine.

In addition to my clinical and academic work, I’m deeply invested in empowering others through financial education. I'm a Certified Financial Educator and serve on the advisory board for the Colorado State Financial Educator Council, helping shape educational policy and resources that support long-term financial well-being.

I live in Denver, Colorado with my partner, Lauren. Outside of medicine, I’m most at home on a hiking trail, logging miles on a run, or at a good game night.

Thanks for visiting—let’s explore the future of aging and healthspan, together.
